Arapahoe County Clerk of Court

The Clerk of Court for Arapahoe County court cases is part of the Colorado Judicial Branch. Court files are maintained by the clerk for the court where the case was filed, usually through the Arapahoe County Combined Courts at the Justice Center in Centennial or the Littleton courthouse. The clerk's court-record role includes filed pleadings, orders, judgments, decrees, probate documents, criminal dispositions, domestic relations documents, docket entries, and copy requests that require court review.

Arapahoe County's Clerk and Recorder is a different elected county office. It records deeds, liens, releases, military discharges, marriage licenses, and other public documents. It also handles elections, motor vehicle services, passport acceptance, and marriage or civil union licenses. The Clerk and Recorder specifically says it is not affiliated with county, municipal, or state court systems and cannot provide court records, court forms, or court documents.

Clerk of Court vs Recorder

The most important Arapahoe County clerk distinction is custody. The Clerk of Court keeps court case records for District Court and County Court matters. The Clerk and Recorder keeps recorded public documents and marriage records. Divorce decrees, probate filings, criminal case files, civil pleadings, and court orders go through the Colorado Judicial Branch. Deeds, recorded liens, releases, older recorded books, marriage license recordings, and military discharges go through Recording.

The Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder homepage shows the county office's service areas, including recording, marriage licenses, elections, passports, motor vehicle services, and drop boxes.

That county office is important for recorded documents, but the same screenshot does not make it the custodian for District Court or County Court case files.

Request Arapahoe County Court Documents

The Judicial Branch access guide gives three paths for court records. Docket search is free and helps with hearing information. Limited register-of-actions access is available through paid vendors listed by the Judicial Branch, but vendor data is not the official court record and does not provide document copies. Actual copies of pleadings, orders, probate documents, divorce decrees, case dispositions, and other filed documents come from the court where the case was filed or through the online request form.

1. Decide whether the need is a hearing date, a register of actions, or an actual document copy.
2. Search the Colorado docket tool if only date, location, or case activity is needed.
3. Use the case number if known. If not, include party names, case type, and enough detail for the clerk to identify the file.
4. Submit the Record/Document Request Form or contact the court location directly.
5. Wait for court follow-up about availability, access limits, copies, fees, ID, or pickup/delivery steps.

Note: Arapahoe County Court does not accept faxed documents, and county recording drop boxes are not court filing drop boxes.

Arapahoe County Request Fields

The court record request form asks for requester contact information and case details. A case number is optional on the form but can be critical for an accurate clerk search. The form gives an example case format of 2019T999999 and says Denver County Court formats must go to Denver County Court, which matters when a searcher has paperwork from a different Colorado court.

Arapahoe County Clerk Fees

For court records, the research did not locate a local copy-fee table that should be quoted as a fixed Arapahoe County court amount. The Judicial Branch request process says the court contacts the requester with more information, which may include costs. For recorded documents handled by the Clerk and Recorder, the county fee page states a flat recording fee took effect on July 1, 2025. These are separate fee systems.

The Arapahoe County Recording Fees page supports the $43 recording-fee statement, but it does not set the court clerk's copy charges.

Use that fee only for recorded documents, because court document copy charges are handled through the Judicial Branch request process.

Arapahoe County Clerk Search Channels

Arapahoe County court records are not searched through a county government case database. For hearing dates, use the statewide docket search. For a register of actions, use the vendor access described by the Judicial Branch, understanding that copies still require clerk contact. For documents, use the record request form. For Clerk and Recorder records, use the Legal Document Search instead.

The Arapahoe Recording Division page explains that the enhanced online Document Search is for recorded documents and that in-person recording services are by appointment only. Online recorded documents date back to February 1, 1996, and in-office public records go back to 1902. The office also says it does not perform lien searches, so requesters need specific document information.

The Recording Division source is useful for deeds and recorded licenses, but it reinforces the point that court pleadings and orders belong with the court clerk.
